More than 3,000 windfarms, 12 new nuclear plant and up to 20 GW of carbon storage and sequestration kit may need to be built over the next two decades if the UK is to have any hope of meeting its targets for cutting greenhouse gas emissions, says a new study. A new report produced for the Confederation of British Industry (Bl) by consultant McKinsey, says the UK's target to cut CO2 emissions by 20% by 2020 is unlikely to be met and hitting the longer term target to cut CO2 by 60% by 2050 will be very challenging and not achieved without significant additional effort.
