Ofgem has launched a review of the governance regime for codes and charging methods in the gas and electricity industries with an eye to make them less complex and more amenable to environmental objectives. The codes are the rules governing the commercial regime under which energy companies in the UK operate. "We want to open a debate on whether the regime is sufficiently accessible and transparent to, for example, smaller generators and suppliers and whether it is sufficiently aligned with Ofgem's duties, for example, as they relate to the environment," the regulator said.
