The UK remains well on course to meet its Kyoto Protocol greenhouse gas emissions reduction targets, according to figures published this month by the Department for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra). Emissions of six Greenhouse Gases (GHGs) covered by the Kyoto treaty fell by 14.6% between 1990 and 2004. Under the Kyoto Protocol, the UK has agreed to reduce GHG emissions 12.5% below 1990 levels during the 2008-2012 period.
