Chancellor of the Exchequer Gordon Brown has announced an increase to the UK's Climate Change Levy (CCL) for the first time since it was introduced in 2001. Introducing his Budget for the coming year, Brown said "it is my intention that for 2007 we index the climate change levy in line with inflation." Inflation is currently pegged at 2%, Brown said. At present, the CCL is charged to industrial energy users at the rate of 0.15p/kWh for gas, 1.17p/kg (or 0.15p/kWh) for coal, 0.96p/kg (equivalent to 0.07p/kWh) for liquefied petroleum gas, and 0.43p/kWh for electricity.
