This month, the consultation period for the UK government's latest review ended. The review is assessing progress on four goals - creating a low carbon economy, tackling fuel poverty, ensuring security of supply and ensuring competitive market - set out in the last Energy White paper produced in 2003. The government has been inundated with responses - with more than 2,000 written responses submitted by the closure date for the consultation. The UK government's review team will now collate and feed them into its own analysis and thinking to prepare a report for the Prime Minister by the summer. Some cynics think that the review is merely a rubber stamping exercise for a program of new nuclear stations. However, just days after the consultation period closed, a group of backbench MPs released a detailed critique of the review - sending ripples through Whitehall and beyond.
