This year should be another busy year for the UK energy industry. In the following article Dominic Maclaine looks at the events set to dominate the next 12 months and speculates on the likely influence of others. The forthcoming year promises to be yet another busy 12 months for the electricity industry in the UK. But, as the unanticipated power cuts across the globe demonstrated last year, predicting the important events and trends that are likely to shape the year can be seen, for the most part, to be a pointless task with the benefit of hindsight. However, even if there are no similar 'shocks', there is still plenty afoot. In its recent consultation paper on its future strategy, Ofgem set out some of the main issues it has to tackle this year. Top of the agenda is the consultation process on the next electricity distribution price controls which are due for introduction in April 2005.
