I can't take credit for the title, although I wrote the presentation. The title was the brainstorm of the CEO of the now-defunct Interconnection Technology Research Institute, Jerry Siegmund. The presentation was to raise awareness of the changes underway in the PCB market and determine the level of interest and concern over industry partnerships. Unfortunately, ITRI closed before Jerry could write the presentation, so I developed and presented it at the Defense Manufacturing Conference last November. "R&D, where have you gone?" I asked at the conference. IPC has shown concern for years over the industry's diminishing R&D. We supported the October Project when it was an independent consortium, formed ITRI in 1994, and with the U.S. Army and Illinois Institute of Technology Research Institute formed PMTEC, the Printed Wiring Board Manufacturing Technology Center.
