If the impact of yeast genetics on elucidation of the molecular mechanisms involved in mem- brane traffic is any indication, one can foresee a very rapid exploitation of this model to unravel the molecular mecha- nisms involved in the biogenesis and exocytosis of dense-cored secretory granules, particularly in the area of the granule membrane componenets, which play a fundamental role in the mechanism of biogenesis, movement, and exocytosis, and hitherto have escaped direct isolation and identification by biochemical procedures.
