摘要

Wolbachia is a genus of bacteria that inhabits a variety of insect hosts. These symbiotic bacteria are transmitted through the female individuals and can spread within insect host populations because of their unique ability to manipulate reproduction (1). When introduced to nonnative mosquito hosts (i.e., a species lacking Wolbachia), the bacteria induce resistance in the mosquitoes to a number of pathogens that cause human disease, including dengue virus (DENV), Plasmodium, and filarial nematodes (2-4). Thus, Wolbachia could be explored as a potential tool in the control of mosquito-borne diseases.
