摘要

Maternal stress during pregnancy can influence fetal brain development and eventual function, with long-term consequences, including increased susceptibility to affective disorders like depression (1). Animal studies suggest that the same regions often altered in patients with affective problems (i.e., the hippocampus and amygdala) are particularly sensitive, during the developmental period, to exposure to the stress hormone cortisol.
