The tsunami that hit the coast of Japan on March 11 already has had a devastating effect on the people of Japan. Hindsight brought with time and experience will best show us the primary lessons learned. Yet certainly, for any industrial processor, one must be the lesson of the Tokyo Electric Power Co. and its Fukushima Daiichi power plant. Fortunately, at least as I write this, the worst of the nuclear threat has been contained. And so, the questions begin about why the tsunami so devastatingly crippled the plant. Did the company do enough to anticipate and prepare for the known risks?
