It is often said that safety is a universal language, and it is certainly true that the OSH profession has always been global in nature. That fact is reflected in ASSE's vision "to be a global advocate and premier leader for the safety, health and environmental professional and the profession." ASSE's global outreach has expanded to more than 80 countries, and 1 in 14 members now resides outside the U.S. Globalization is a defining trend of our time. Spurred by capital investments, open trade policies and technological progress, economies are growing all over the world. For the first time in history, more than 2 billion people are experiencing an elevated standard of living. And with rapid growth in emerging markets such as Asia, India, Africa, the Middle East and Latin America, the global middle class is expected to add another 3 billion people to its ranks by 2030.
