The January 2009 article on safety engineering by John Mroszczyk (pp. 33-41) was excellent in its analysis and suggestions for a path for the safety profession. However, Mroszczyk illustrated another serious concern that was not addressed that should be given urgent consideration by that in undergraduate engineering curricula, future engineers receive minimal knowledge and skills related to incorporating safety into engineering design. Further, the fundamentals examination for licensing in most engineering specialties does not include questions related to safety knowledge and skills.
