With the new year underway, I have been reflecting on 2018 and looking ahead to 2019.I have reviewed elements of my personal life, assessed my work in our profession, contemplated my engagement as a volunteer leader and considered my contributions to my professional community.I've been doing this annual reflection for some time. Each year, I write down three specific goals so I can revisit them often to assess my progress and adjust as necessary. To identify these goals, I consider comments and feedback from my family and close friends, explore emerging trends and the latest thinking in our field, and think about all I have learned through my interactions with members and colleagues around the globe. A critical part of this process is ensuring that I am objectively assessing where I am so that I can determine where I want to be and set challenging yet realistic goals to reach my desired future state.
