The old saw about real estate and location may be tired as a metaphor but the freight transportation world's version of it—"capacity, capacity, capacity"—is anything but. On Oct. 4-5, Progressive Railroading and I held "Raillrends 2006," a meeting of the minds on a range of rail financial and strategic issues, in New York City. The event tagline—"Financing Capacity & Growth in the Railway Industry"— seemed spot on when we settled on it last winter. It's even more relevant today. And RailTrends attendees were able to look at the problems and opportunities from a variety of angles and perspectives.
