Despite difficult market conditions and volatile paper prices, British packaging company DS Smith posts higher operating profit (£259m) and net profit (£171 m) for the first half of the current business year (per 31 October 2019) compared to the same period last year. Sales grew from £3.07bn to £3.19bn mainly on the back of the Europac acquisition and growth in the packaging segment, the company said. The company achieved healthy organic profit growth and gained market share in Europe. Weak demand from the industrial sector impacted the industrial box segment. However, the company added that is only a small part of its business operations. The company is nevertheless undertaking necessary cost control measures.
