The coronavirus pandemic has left its mark on the first-half results of British recycling, paper and packaging group DS Smith. In the six months ended 31 October, the decline in volumes was only 1 per cent compared with the prior-year period, but the group's sales fell by 9 per cent to around £2.89bn. DS Smith attributed this downturn primarily to price reductions for paper and corrugated boxes, compounded by a drop in deliveries, especially in the business with external customers.
