"Reengineering for the Digitalization Age" (October 2020, pp. 26-31) is a good article. I especially like steps three (cancel unnecessary activities in the process) and five (reduce unnecessary features and entities involved). Too often, we engage in activities like quality function deployment or failure mode and effects analysis and forget that, in addition to identifying things we need to address, those tools help identify things that could be taken out of people's workloads. Assigning precious resources to nonvalue-added features or tasks is wasteful.
