be drilled. This is not a method I would recommend in industry, but the measurement was exact enough for my needs. But measurements in industry must be more exact. This situation reminds me of what Nassim Nicholas Taleb, a philosopher and former mathematical trader, calls Wittgenstein's ruler, named after 20th-century philosopher Ludwig Wittgenstein. The ruler states that, "Unless you have confidence in the ruler's reliability, if you use a ruler to measure a table, you also may be using the table to measure the ruler."
