The continued boom in electric flight has seen a parallel growth in must-have accessories and the prime example is the charger. Quality and features vary from the just-about-adequate devices given away with some RTF models to fairly powerful sophisticated products, capable of charging a large variety of cell types and capacities. The device we are examining here is certainly in the latter category. The Pro-Peak Sigma II from Ripmax is a solid, well-built unit which, like every other LiPo battery charger sold these days, is capable of balancing multi-cell packs by paying individual attention to each cell in the pack. But it also has some other useful features. To start with, it is a dual power unit and will operate from a suitable 12 Volt source such as a power supply or a large leisure battery, or it can be mains operated by way of a supplied 'kettle' lead. It also boasts an output power of 50 Watts and can charge 6S Lithium packs at 6 Amps, so it is well capable of charging and discharging some of the larger LiPo packs in use these days.
