摘要

Although not all model aircraft enthusiasts are enthusiasts of full size aviation, I know some who are and of course the full size 'display' seasons occur around the same time as our model ones. At the Yeovilton show last year three aircraft that were not much bigger than models did some high spirited 'flour bomb' dropping and limbo. The aircraft were Druine Turbulents D-31s and were flown by the Tiger Squadron. A 30 hp VW engine usually powers this French 'home-build' 50s design aircraft by Roger Druine. Its good flying characteristics also make it a popular choice for scale modellers. In spite of very gusty conditions on the day, as my photos show, the squadron flew some amazing limbo passes in light aircraft that were really feeling the effects of the wind. It was a display of quite remarkable flying skill using a 50+ year old design that is built like a big model, in adverse conditions.
