Last month I mentioned that lowering the ailerons of my Diablo 3-D fun fly together as flaperons had no pitching effect at all, which reminds me that I have other comments on flaps on file. Some time ago Archie Sinclair told me about his DC3 built from the Top Flite kit and powered by a pair of OS 40LA two strokes. He reported that when full flap (about 60 degrees he says) is introduced there is no apparent change in pitch trim, but drag increases. The engines on this model have about 6 degrees of down-thrust. The wing is fully sheeted in jigs, which give it washout, and the handling at the stall is fine with no tip-stall. The only problem with the flaps seems to be the large amount of up elevator needed to land the aeroplane. As a full size pilot I am not surprised at that, and I know that moving the C of G further aft, a little at a time, will reduce the effect.
