Over 30 years have passed since I built and flew my first electric-powered R/C model. In those days most aspects of electric flight were a struggle. 'Plug & play' electric gear was a long way off and a simple switch operated by a servo represented the height of sophistication in motor control. Living in Germany at that time enabled me to take advantage of the wide interest in electric flight in that country and a link with Astro Flight in the States provided me with an early source of technically advanced electric gear. In fact my first electronic speed controller (about the size of a cigarette packet!) and mini size servos came from the USA. A hunt through my archives produced a feature I wrote in June 1977 on the 'electric scene' in my local German Club.
