A ready to fly 3.6 g R/C model aircraft that really can be flown in your lounge is on the market. Now is this an April Fool's joke? It certainly isn't and I know from emails I've received that I'm definitely not the only person in the UK to own a Plantraco R/C conversion of the tiny Ikara Butterfly. I'm going to be covering this model and the equipment it uses in more detail soon. It flies really well on its single 30 mAh LiPo cell, using fully proportional throttle and rudder control. What is more interesting to me than the actual Butterfly is the fact that the individual R/C items used on this model can be obtained separately. Once you have the special transmitter, a 0.4 g Rx with its single 0.9 g LiPo cell, a 0.22 g hinge actuator and the 5:1 geared, 4 mm motor with carbon prop, tiny models in the 4 - 6 g range are totally practical. If you can't wait to hear about more the Plantraco R/C Butterfly, take a look at it on their website. I'm starting this month with an unusual model that is equally at home both indoors and outdoors. It is fascinating to fly and not at all expensive. This could definitely be the model for you if you are short of flying space!
