In 1944 the U.S.S. Lexington, aircraft carrier CV-16 of the U.S. Pacific Fleet, took part in one of the great naval battles of WWII, which will ever go down in history, officially, as the Battle of the Marianas, but to those who took part, it is known as the 'Marianas Turkey Shoot'. On board and ready for action was a Douglas Dauntless SB-5 dive bomber with the Serial Number '54532' and with the individual aircraft number '5' painted in white on either side. Sixty years later with the U.S.S. Lexington decommissioned and berthed as a memorial at Corpus Christi in Texas, a Dauntless, in the guise of the colours of the original 54532, is now flying in the United States, at Peach Tree, Georgia, thanks to the love and care of the Dixie Wing of The Confederate Air Force.
