I have enjoyed building and flying model aircraft for many years and cannot think of a better hobby to adopt. This started with a free flight Wakefield rubber powered model, which was a Christmas present from my father way back in 1956. Since then I have watched this wonderful pastime grow and blossom into the ever expanding and exciting world of R/C aircraft we know today. My particular experiences have mostly been with radio controlled models, and as my chosen vocation was that of electronics, I found these two subjects to be inseparable. From the early 60s I became involved with many single channel DIY receiver and transmitter projects to fly my converted free flight models, albeit with limited success on many occasions. Some of the receiver designs of that time used old fashioned valves and were rather crude by comparison with those available today, but these still provided a lot of entertainment on a shoe string budget.
