摘要

For radiation processing of food or the sterilization of medical products and whenever government regulations are involved, it is extremely important that proper dosimetry be performed using calibrated dosimeters and internationally accepted procedures. Unfortunately, there is often a desire to place dosimeters on every box or package so that an inspector can verify that the proper treatment has been achieved. This is not practical, however, and in fact, having a dosimeter on each package may provide misleading results. The use of radiation-sensitive indicators is also discouraged because they do not have the reproducibility or the insensitivity to environmental conditions required of real dosimeters to verify absorbed dose. Therefore they only show when the product has received some radiation.
