The revised EC patient Directive 97/43/EUATOM introduces a number of new and extremely relevant requriements into the legal framework of radiation protection of persons who undergo medical exposure throughout Europe. Key elements of the most relevant changes invovle a mroe objective assessment of radiological performance. In particular, the establishment of optimisation strategies involving clinical and patient dose audits, as well as quality assurance, will be requried. There is no doubt that within this changing framework for radiation proection of the patient, advicea nd guidance regarding best practice at a Eutoprsn lrbrl eill play a vital role in the achievement of consistent and harmonised practice.
