The leader of Hull City Council has used a Transport for the North virtual seminar to urge electrification to the East Coast port. Daren Hale told TfN Talks on June 18 that the Humber region has more carbon emissions than any other, but also that "we see ourselves as part of the solution". Pointing out that electrification reaches no nearer to Hull than Selby on the East Coast Main Line (around 31 miles away), Hale said that the city's Paragon Inter-hange and its docks should be wired to create a 'port-to- port' Hull-Liverpool electrified route. Hale was one of several speakers to take part in the online event, held to discuss TfN's decarbonisation plans. Transport for the North aims to reach near-zero carbon emissions by 2045, five years before the UK Government's own target.
