This book covers all 1,375 species of bird found in this part of Asia (which accounts for 13% of the world's birds!), has over 4,000 colour plates and over 1,300 maps. This makes it a weighty tome, over 5 cm thick. Whether this book could be used as a field guide depends on personal taste - it is rather bigger and heavier that other field guides but as a reference copy for a library it is ideal.
