The Who's Who, biographical notes, vertical files and limited heritage dictionaries have represented the limited scope of resources used in the Caribbean and Afro-Latin America for constructing the biographical stories of the people of these regions. Reference sources on Caribbean and Afro-Latin American persons have long been scarce, and the availability of the information that does exist is very localized. The Dictionary of Caribbean and Afro-Latin American Biography, reviewed here in its electronic version, is the first biographical resource to focus on persons of African descent in Latin America and the Caribbean. It has bridged the resource gap for regional and international researchers and information units.
