Appropedia is a wiki that was built to provide solutions in sustainability, technology and poverty reduction to interested users. A wiki is a collaborative encyclopedia that anyone can edit and add information to, which can lead to both good and bad situations. This means that true experts on these subjects can directly write articles, providing quality, free information to the masses. On the negative side, literally anyone can edit the pages - even someone that just wants to provide wrong information. With that in mind, wikis can be very useful sources of information, but the user needs to be aware at all times of where the information comes from. A good article will cite its sources, providing the user with the ability to fact-check. One thing that I love about Appropedia, in particular, is that it is a wiki, so I found navigation to be very familiar, as should any current user of the Internet. Navigation is on the left side of the page in its own bar, directing the user to the type of information that they are looking for. The articles themselves appear on the main part of the screen to the right. When reading articles, various keywords are links, which take the user to an article on that specific keyword. Seeing links between topics is easy, and it is simple to become lost in the web of information that appears. Some authors have more authority than others, but that is the risk one takes when using a wiki page.
