We all think that we have a handle on the ideas of Nietzsche. Friedrich Nietzsche (1844-1900) wrote about so many things - being, meaning, truth, tragedy, morality, politics, art and human nature - that distillations of his many critical insights abound. So too do studies of his work with titles like Nietzsche and [. . .] philosophy, Buddhism, metaphysics, politics, good and evil. The influence of Schopenhauer made him a nihilist, his famous assertion that "God is Dead" makes him appeal to atheists, his commentary on tragedy and Wagner takes us into will-power and supermen and fascism and his own tragic personal life (broken friendships, mental breakdowns and manipulation of his ideas by his sister) adds to the fascination today with his work.
