In multi-ethnic communities like Bradford, helping Local Studies customers to trace their family trees can sometimes lead further afield than Yorkshire or even the UK. Advising family historians with Asian, European or Caribbean ancestry would be impossible without websites like Ancestry and helpful guides produced by professional researchers and The National Archives. Reference works like Guy Grannum's approach to tracing ancestors in the British West Indian colonies are not general introductions to family history and may be difficult to follow for beginners, but genealogists with foreign ancestry who have exhausted the usual online collections will find them invaluable.
