These two large format, but thankfully slim, volumes have a decidedly "in-your-face" orange covers. Suits the subject: dissent, protest, civil disobedience. The preface invites "the student, rnhistorian, researcher, writer, genealogist, archivist, teacher, librarian, journalist, or general reader to investigate by concept, era, event, group or individual dissenter the history of protest in the United States". The brief introduction outlines how dissent has become part of the American culture and how its targets have changed from religious opposition and rebellion against George III, to draft dodging, the Vietnam War and Guantanamo Bay.
