Books about natural history are on the increase as are programmes about animals and naturerndocumentaries on the television, e.g. in the UK Nick Baker's Weird Creatures. This book is another aimed at anyone with an interest in nature especially if you like fascinating facts and the strange and wonderful. In the introduction it explains that the book does not claim to cover all animals on earth - just a "cherry-picking" of the animal kingdom and it is only concerned with living animals. The information would normally be found in specialised inaccessible textbooks.
