Quadrupole mass fillers operale by varying the DC and RF component of the electric potential between rods so that only the motion of ions in a narrow band of m/Z (hereafter called "mass") arc stable. Due to variability in manufacture ofclectrodes and conlrol electronics and perturbations due to other ion optical devices the central masses and peak widths of the filter at given RF ampltudes and DC offsets must be determined by empirical calibration.
