In the last 5 years, some authors have argued that the system o knowledge production has undergone important changes, and have predicted that universities would no longer be the main locus of knowledge production. The paper shows that though we observe a diversification of the sites of knowledge production, universities remain at the center of the system, while the growth of the other sectors (hospitals, industries and governments laboratories) is strongly linked to universities.
