摘要

To the editors: I just finished reading the article "Understanding Organics" by Lisa Skumatz and Gary Horton in the November issue. Though both are beyond brilliant and have been working in the industry a lot longer than I have, I truly believe they missed an opportunity to push the importance of municipalities working closely (i.e., communicating) with processors to ensure organics collection programs only bring in material processors can handle, especially when it comes to commercial collection. In the article, the only real mention of the stream makeup is: "The material to be included is consideration number one. Will it be yard debris only? Or will it include some or all of the vegetative, bone and dairy categories? The processing mix often benefits from the addition of bone."
