Located just outside Warrenton, Virginia in the heart of Fauquier County - named for an 18th century lieutenant governor of Old Dominion, who allegedly won the land in a poker game - the Fauquier County Environmental Services Construction and Demolition Recycling Facility opened its doors in July 2007 as far less of a gamble. Beginning in 2001, the county began using an unlined cell with excess capacity solely for construction and demolition (C&D) debris, ultimately mining that cell for recoverable materials and sorting it at its C&D MRF. That facility is fed through a county-run drop-off program for both residents and commercial customers. The C&D material is run through the plant's two processing lines, with materials being sorted both by hand and via a cross-belt overhead magnet and a star screen.
