In my previous column on this topic, I covered Web resources that discussed what bioplastics (BPs) are and their uses, as well as the framework that has been developed to validate manufacturer claims regarding end-of-life compostability. At the end of that column, I provided a link to a City of Los Angeles factsheet as an example of a municipal organics recycling program that did not accept BP products in their collection mix because they were considered not process-able through the systems of their composting contractors' despite ASTM certification.
