摘要

In 1970, environmentalists proclaimed that the world was running out of resources and needed what we were throwing away. Only a few prescient people in this country believed them and congress still doesn't. But, over the last 40 years, the adherents to this concept are growing. There are 2 billion more people in the world than there were in 1970, with no more air, water, trees, ores, etc. then there were back then, and maybe a billion more people wanting to live the resource-consumptive life that we in the first world currently "enjoy." In my opinion, the world needs all the material resources it can find and any system that works, like scavenging, should be encouraged, not fought. "There is no solid waste, only wasted solids," as some like to say.
