The materials recovery facility (MRF) of tomorrow is a product of over two decades of continuing development in technology and an ever-increasing sophistication of management techniques. The evolution of technology, from primitive facilities for baling multi-source-separated grades to today's modern single-steam facilities capable of processing in excess of 100,000 tons per year, is, in itself, an interesting history worthy of a work much longer than this article.
