Recycled paper executives are monitoring a number of issues, including: 1. Goodbye Weyerhaeuser, hello IP. International Paper (Memphis, Tennessee) now owns Weyerhaeuser's (Federal Way, Washington) containerboard business, along with more than two dozen fiber packing plants. Thus, IP, which now has about 30 percent of the U.S. containerboard market, can use about 3.2 million tons of old corrugated containers per year. The question: Will IP maintain all of the old Weyerhaeuser assets? If not, will such firms as Smurfit-Stone (Chicago) or GreenStar North America (Houston) buy some of the IP packing operations?
