Potentiometric nondestructive testing of surface‐hardened materials

摘要

A new nondestructive method for the determination of the depth of surface‐hardened layers in steels is presented. It is based on the measurement of the electric potential difference between points on the surface of the sample, as induced by a dc current flowing through the sample itself. The resulting hardening depths are found to be in excellent agreement with those determined through destructive hardness tests on the sectioned samples.
