Department of Anthropology, Gauhati University in collaboration with Indian Science News Association, Kolkata, Anthropological Survey of India and Indian Council of Social Science Research, Shillong organized a two day National Seminar on "Science , Technology and Innovation: Its Impact on Communities of N.E. India". The seminar was inaugurated by the chief guest Professor H.P. Sarma, Rector, Gauhati University. The Guests of honour were Dr. Arup Misra, Director, Assam Science, Technology and Environment Council, Govt. of Assam and Professor Anjana Kakoti Mahanta, Dean, Science and Technology, Gauhati University. The welcome address was given by Professor Parimal Ch. Sen, Honorary Secretary, Indian Science News Association (ISNA). Dr. S.B. Chakrabarti, ISNA introduced the seminar to the audience. The current issue of the journal Science and Culture was made open in the North East by Professor S.C. Roy who is the Editor in Chief. Dr. G.S. Rautela, Director General of National Council of Science Museums, Kolkata and the Director of Anthropological Survey of India, Kolkata gave the keynote address. He announced the scheme of opening a Science City in Guwahati for which land has already been allotted by the Govt. of Assam in Sonapur area which is located in the outskirts of Guwahati. The session ended with Presidential remarks given by Professor Mini Bhattacharya Thakur, the Head of the Department of Anthropology, Gauhati University.
