摘要

For the first time in 47 years the Hevesy Medal has been awarded to any Indian scientist. The recipient of this prestigious lifetime achievement award is Professor Susanta Lahiri, Senior Scientist, Chemical Sciences Division, Saha Institute of Nuclear Physics. This award was introduced in 1968, two years after the demise of the Hungarian Nobel Laureate, George De Hevesy, who is credited for his unique discoveries of radiotracer technique, neutron activation technique and many more. Prof Lahiri received this award on April 12, 2015 during the 10th International Conference on Methods and Application of Radioanalytical Chemistry (MARC X) in Hawaii, for his sustained contribution to heavy ion induced radioisotope production, tracer packet technique, converter targets and green chemistry. He is the youngest scientist to have received this award at the age of 53 and was nominated by the scientists of three leading countries, United States of America, Czech Republic and Brazil.
