Indian Science News Association (ISNA), a heritage organisation founded in the year 1935 by Acharya Prafulla Chandra Ray and Professor Meghnad Saha, every year organises a Training Programme on Science Communication and Media Practice. Likewise, this year the inauguration of (ⅩⅩⅧ) Training Programme on Science Communication and Media Practice 2014 was held on July 23, 2014, Wednesday at J. N. Bhar Auditorium, Department of Radio Physics and Electronics, University of Calcutta (Rajabazar Campus). The programme commenced with introductory comments from Dr. Amit Krishna De, Convener, Organising Committee, Training Programme on Science Communication and Media Practice - 2014. After the opening song, presented by Mrs. Debnanda Bandyopadhyay, Dr. De explained the essence and the basic structure of the ten weeks' course. The dignitaries for the evening included viz. Professor Somak Roychaudhury, Dean, Faculty of Natural and Mathematical Sciences, Presidency University, Kolkata (who later formally inaugurated the programme); Sk. E. Islam, Director, Birla Industrial and Technological Museum, Kolkata, the Guest of Honour of the ceremony; Professor N. C. Datta, Vice President, ISNA; Professor Parimal C. Sen, Honorary Secretary, ISNA and Professor Biswapati Mukherjee, Chairman Organising Committee. They were invited to take their seats on the dais and honoured with flowers by past and present students of the courses. Sri Diapk Saha, Office Superintendent, ISNA felicitated the guests. Professor N. C. Datta, one of the Vice-Presidents presided over the session in absence of President, Professor B. B. Biswas.
