摘要

Professor Dilip Kumar Sinha, a celebrated mathematician, a dedicated scientist, a distinguished educationist and an able administrator, passed away friday morning on 2~(nd) April, 2021 at 4 a.m. due to sudden cardiac arrest in a hospital in Kolkata. The mathematical community all over the world has lost a great erudite scholar after his demise and many of us have lost a valued colleague, friend and mentor. Even on Wednesday 31 March 2021, he, in his early eighties, had talks with relatives and a lot of friends personally to discuss about his writings and future programmes. It will not be possible for us to present a complete life-sketch of Professor Sinha in this issue of this journal, primarily due to the paucity of space and his vast list of varied areas of interests during the last six decades. This article is an attempt to present a glimpse of his attainments, achievements and information in his works, as part of his life-sketch, mostly restricted to academic in nature and with special emphasis on science and culture.
