Gyricon Media was spun off from Xerox PARC in December 2000 as a wholly owned subsidiary to develop electronic paper and integrated network signage solutions. The company has a $10 million 48,000-square-foot manufacturing facility in Ann Arbor, Michigan to produce its patented SmartPaper™ media and signage solutions. Gyricon''s primary technology is SmartPaper, a reusable monochromatic display material similar to regular paper, but electronically writeable and erasable. SmartPaper is non-volatile, is viewable in reflective light, has a wide viewing angle, is flexible and is relatively inexpensive. Unlike regular paper, it is electrically writeable and erasable, yet only requires power when information changes, thus ensuring long battery life.
